The cloth
Handloom Cotton
Pit-loom cotton with a faint irregularity in the weft. It breathes in a way mill cotton cannot.
Pit-loom cotton dipped six times in a natural indigo vat, which is where the depth comes from. Cut long and loose with deep side slits and two hidden seam pockets. It will lighten a shade over the first year and then hold.
The indigo will transfer very slightly onto pale upholstery for the first few wears.
Model is 5'6" and wears a size M
Our handloom cotton comes off pit looms in Bhagalpur, where the weaver sits below floor level with their feet in a trench. The rhythm is slower than a power loom by an order of magnitude — roughly six metres a day against sixty. What you get for that time is a cloth with a slight unevenness in the weft, which is why it falls softly instead of standing away from the body, and why it takes natural dye unevenly and beautifully.
Hand wash separately in cold water for the first three washes. Dry in shade. Steam rather than press.
Complimentary shipping across India on orders above ₹5,000. Dispatched from Bengaluru.
